A new functionality being introduced with the Oppo Find N5 enables Mac users to manage their computers directly from their smartphones, enhancing the synergy between their devices and macOS.
Oppo is keen on improving its support for users within the Apple ecosystem. The company previously released O+ Connect, facilitating wireless file transfers between Oppo and OnePlus smartphones and iOS gadgets, akin to AirDrop. This feature is now set to extend to Mac systems.
With the Oppo Find N5, O+ Connect will create two types of integrations between your Oppo device and a macOS machine, like a MacBook. Firstly, the dedicated Mac application will provide wireless access to the files stored on your smartphone, allowing users to retrieve documents, images, and even notes effortlessly without needing to unlock their phone.
However, the more exciting feature is the capability to remotely control your Mac using the Oppo Find N5.
Using the 8.12-inch internal display of the Find N5, users can view their Mac’s screen on one half of the foldable device, with a virtual keyboard and trackpad available on the other side, as illustrated above. Oppo elaborates:
When connected, set your Find N5 to FlexForm Mode for a laptop-like work experience, where the lower half of the folded display serves as a trackpad. You can now interact with your macOS device using familiar gestures: pinch with two fingers to zoom in and out, swipe with two fingers to scroll, use a three-finger swipe up to open Mission Control, navigate between desktops with three fingers, and pinch with four fingers to access Launchpad.
While file sharing necessitates both devices to be on the same Wi-Fi network, the remote control feature functions seamlessly even when your Mac is far from the phone, making it a convenient option for remote work.
Many of these capabilities are expected to roll out to other Oppo (and possibly OnePlus) smartphones in the future, but the foldable design undoubtedly enhances their practicality.
The Oppo Find N5 is set to launch globally—though not in the United States—this week.
