Apple has launched its first product of the year, the iPhone 16e, this week. Additionally, there are five more launches in the pipeline set for the upcoming weeks and months. Here’s an overview of what to expect.
M4 MacBook Air
Apple’s best-selling Mac has been eagerly awaited for its M4 upgrade, which is anticipated to arrive shortly. The new M4 MacBook Air is set to come in both 13-inch and 15-inch models. Some of its key features include:
- Base RAM of 16GB, with options to expand up to 32GB
- Capability to support two external displays while the lid is open
- 12MP Center Stage camera
- Enhanced battery life due to the efficiency improvements of the M4 chip
- Option for a nano-texture display
While no significant design alterations are anticipated for the M4 model, it promises to be a worthy upgrade—especially for those using the M1 version.
M3 iPad Air
The current iPad Air has been around since last May, and an update is already on the horizon. According to the company’s quarterly earnings, the previous iPad Air has seen notable popularity, likely due to its availability in both 11-inch and 13-inch sizes.
The upcoming iPad Air will be powered by Apple’s M3 chip, representing a significant upgrade from the existing M2 version. Additionally, it is expected to be compatible with a newly designed Magic Keyboard accessory, along with various other minor enhancements.
iPad 11th Generation
The base model iPad is in dire need of an upgrade. It was the only iPad model that did not receive an update in 2024, and it also remained unchanged in 2023. The 10th iteration launched in October 2022, which makes it long overdue for a refresh.
Apple is poised to equip its new 11th generation iPad with an A17 Pro chip, the same as that used in the latest iPad mini, allowing for complete Apple Intelligence support. Furthermore, it should be compatible with the new Magic Keyboard designed for the iPad Air. According to reports, the iPad may also feature the new C1 modem for enhanced 5G connectivity.
‘HomePad’
One product I’m particularly excited about is a new home device dubbed ‘HomePad.’ Based on Mark Gurman’s insights, this 7-inch square-like smart display will blend features of an iPad and HomePod. It is set to function as a smart home command center while also providing an array of additional features such as:
- Siri powered by Apple Intelligence
- The innovative homeOS software
- FaceTime capabilities
- Access to Safari, Music, Notes, and various other Apple applications
- Widgets reminiscent of iPhone’s StandBy mode
- A wealth of additional features
Pending the final specifications, I already plan to purchase several HomePads to install throughout my home. A release is currently expected in April or May.
AirTag 2
Finally, the AirTag 2 completes the array of new Apple products anticipated in the near future.
The original AirTag has been around for nearly four years, having launched in April 2021. Its successor is highly awaited and is projected to feature three major improvements:
- Enhanced range
- A more advanced wireless chip
- Improved privacy protections
Regarding privacy, Apple aims to make the speaker more difficult to remove and implement other modifications to deter misuse.
