iOS 18.4 Beta Introduces Ambient Music to Control Center through Apple Music

Apple has introduced the initial beta version of iOS 18.4. This update includes new languages for Apple Intelligence, a dedicated Food section for News+ subscribers, and the Apple Vision Pro app for iPhone. Notably, iOS 18.4 also brings Ambient Music controls that can be accessed in Control Center, on the Lock Screen, and more—integrated through Apple Music.

New Controls Activate Apple Music Playlists of Your Choice

Last autumn, Apple revamped Control Center in iOS 18, enhancing customization options and functionality.

Since then, subsequent iOS updates have consistently introduced support for new types of controls to select from.

The iOS 18.4 beta features four new options under an Ambient Music category:

  • Chill
  • Productivity
  • Sleep
  • Wellbeing

These controls can be added to Control Center, assigned to your iPhone’s Action Button, or placed on the Lock Screen to replace the flashlight or camera functionalities.

Each control is programmed to trigger a dedicated Apple Music playlist, but customization is available to suit your preferences.

For instance, the Productivity control is set to play the BEATstrumentals playlist by default. However, by entering editing mode, you can select from Binaural Frequencies, Pure Focus, Classical Concentration, or any other playlist available in your library.

These new controls offer a swift way to start playlists that align with your current mood. Personally, I anticipate making significant use of them in the near future.
