The Estimated Price of the First Folding iPhone: 00 to 00 is Just Speculation

Though Apple has not rushed to release a folding iPhone, it appears we are getting closer to that moment.

Folding smartphones typically come with a high cost, and a new report suggests that the price might exceed initial expectations, potentially reaching “above $2,000 and $2,500”…

The prospect of a folding iPhone in 2026 is becoming more plausible

For over ten years, there have been rumors of Apple developing a folding iPhone, with the conversation gaining momentum following the launch of the first Android foldables. Like many Apple rumors, a release was predicted within a year or two.

However, the notion of a launch in 2026 is becoming more credible, especially now that Apple reportedly has a solution to the most significant drawback of this form factor: the visible crease in the center of the unfolded display.

A recent supply-chain report indicated that Apple has approved display samples from Samsung, and this was reinforced by Oppo’s latest foldable, which showcased significant advancements over previous folding screen generations.

A potential price tag of $2,000 to $2,500

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that the anticipated price for the first-generation foldable iPhone may be even higher than previously thought.

The first-generation foldable iPhone is projected to be priced above $2,000 and $2,500, capitalizing on the iPhone’s reputation as an essential device and Apple’s dedicated customer base.

However, this is purely speculative

Kuo was once a very reliable source due to his extensive connections within Apple’s supply chain. He spent considerable time on-site in China, giving him insight into various components destined for Apple products.

However, it’s important to note that two significant changes have occurred since then. First, his new employment situation seems to have reduced his visits to suppliers. Second, he has begun to share more speculative insights—opinion rather than substantiated supply chain data.

While supply-chain information can sometimes offer glimpses into Apple’s product roadmap, the only individuals who are privy to future pricing details are in the company’s executive team.

Thus, Kuo’s pricing predictions for the first folding iPhone are not based on solid facts but rather educated guesses, influenced by the costs of current folding devices and an assumed Apple premium.

Specifically, he might be considering the Oppo Find 5, which is among the first to significantly reduce the visibility of a crease, retailing at around $1,870. Assuming that an Apple equivalent would sell for above $2,000 may sound reasonable—yet it is still just a speculation.
