Having originally launched nearly four years ago in early 2021, the AirTag has only undergone software updates for privacy and features, with no hardware revamp until now.
According to various sources, Apple is gearing up to release AirTag 2 this spring—likely around May or June.
AirTag 2 is said to introduce three significant enhancements:
- extended range
- new wireless technology
- enhanced privacy features
While the precise impact of these updates isn’t fully outlined, one anticipated privacy improvement includes making the speaker component more securely attached. This enhancement aims to deter misuse such as stalking.
‘HomePad’: A New Addition to Apple’s Home Product Line
The product I’m most excited about in 2025 is the new ‘HomePad’ smart display from Apple.
Initially expected to launch in March, current reports suggest that the HomePad is likely to arrive in April or later.
The HomePad is anticipated to join the ranks of the Apple TV 4K and HomePod, establishing a new category in Apple’s home device offerings, all operating on a new homeOS platform.
This homeOS will blend features such as widgets, controls from the Home app, and native applications like Photos, Music, and Notes to offer practical tools throughout your living space.
Although there are expected to be significant enhancements to Siri capabilities alongside the HomePad, Apple has indicated these may be delayed, possibly launching the HomePad first and rolling out the new features afterward.
