A new feature for message threads in WhatsApp seems to be in development, as revealed in a recent beta version of the app.
This follows a series of new functionalities launched last month, including vibrant chat themes, integration with social media accounts, and ChatGPT support that now extends to images and voice messages.
WABetaInfo has uncovered the details regarding this anticipated feature.
We learned that WhatsApp is developing a feature to cluster message replies into threaded discussions […]
When a user responds to a quoted message, the thread will stay linked to its original message, ensuring that all replies remain organized.
This will allow users to avoid scrolling through a long list of individual messages; instead, they’ll access all related replies within a dedicated thread, making conversations more structured and manageable. In group chats, where discussions can quickly become chaotic, this feature will help users avoid the hassle of scrolling back through extensive chat histories to locate a specific reply. They’ll be able to navigate through threads seamlessly and concentrate on relevant discussions without losing context.
As noted by the site, this will significantly simplify the process of replying to specific topics in busy group chats. While users can currently tap on any quoted message to return to the original post in the thread, gaining a clear overview of the topic can be challenging. Isolating a complete thread for viewing will undoubtedly be a substantial enhancement.
There’s currently no information on when this feature will officially launch. The company usually conducts initial tests on the Android version of the app, where it was first identified, before extending it to the iOS version.
