iPhone 17 Rumored to Include 24MP Front Camera Once More

Following news about Apple’s forthcoming foldable devices, analyst Jeff Pu from GF Securities has issued another report to investors. In this update, Pu reiterates the rumors surrounding the iPhone 17, which is anticipated to come with a 24-megapixel front camera across all four new models.

Latest Speculations on the iPhone 17 Lineup

In the memo reviewed by DMN, the analyst outlines the potential specifications for the iPhone 17 lineup, expected to include four distinct models. According to Pu, each of these models will house a 24-megapixel front camera, a significant upgrade from the current 12-megapixel cameras that have remained unchanged since the iPhone 11 in 2019.

For the iPhone 17 Pro models, users will benefit from a new 48-megapixel telephoto sensor, replacing the existing 12-megapixel zoom camera. DMN had previously reported that Apple experimented with 8K video capabilities for the iPhone 16 Pro, though this feature was postponed due to the limitations of the 12MP telephoto lens, which only supports 4K resolution.

The Pro models are expected to be powered by the A19 Pro chip, featuring 12GB of RAM aimed at enhancing additional Apple Intelligence functionalities. All new models are set to support Wi-Fi 7, which is currently exclusive to the iPhone 16 Pro models, although only the iPhone 17 Air will utilize Apple’s C1 modem — Pu speculates that Apple might reconsider this decision. Wi-Fi 7 will be enabled by a new chip designed by Apple.

iPhone 17 Air and Foldable Devices

Regarding the iPhone 17 Air, the anticipated ultra-slim model, the analyst suggests that it might not be enticing enough to significantly drive up iPhone sales due to its lower specifications, which will not match those of the Pro models.

This device is expected to feature a 6.6-inch display and a slim profile of 5.5 millimeters, potentially making it the thinnest iPhone ever created. However, it will come with a single 48-megapixel rear camera, similar to the iPhone 16e, and will be powered by the standard A19 chip, rather than the Pro variant that includes extra GPU cores and 12GB of RAM.

Pu speculates that the iPhone 17 Air will be constructed from titanium, while the remaining models, including the Pro variants, will be made from aluminum.

As for the foldable devices, Pu clarified that Apple is expected to launch the foldable iPhone in late 2026, with foldable iPads and Macs following in 2027. These new foldable products are projected to significantly elevate Apple’s average selling price (ASP).

Earlier today, the analyst mentioned that delays in introducing new Apple Intelligence features might deter users from upgrading their iPhones in 2025. Apple is anticipated to unveil the iPhone 17 in September.
