On Thursday, Meta unveiled a set of new features for Threads, its microblogging service. Users will now have the ability to incorporate specific topics into their profiles, along with enhanced options for managing who can reply or quote their posts.
New Profile Topics and Features Introduced in Threads
According to a blog post from Meta, the platform has been working on allowing users to select topics to showcase on their profiles. These topics will appear in the user’s bio, making it easier for others to discover your profile based on your interests. Users can include topics like design, coffee, or even Apple.
“Clicking on a topic in someone’s profile will take you to conversations related to that subject, helping you connect with others who share similar interests – and making it easier for those individuals to find you,” the company states. While creating a new post, users will also receive suggested tags that align with Threads’ trending topics.
Furthermore, Threads is introducing additional options that enable users to determine who can engage with their posts. Starting today, you have the ability to restrict replies and quote posts to only your followers. Meta also mentions that it has relaxed its restrictions on political content.
Additionally, Threads is finally launching an upgraded video player in its mobile application for all users.
“Our media player has become more advanced, featuring new controls for pause, play, and skip which enhance the video viewing experience. A pinned progress bar has also been added, allowing for easier navigation through videos.”
The Threads application is available for free on the App Store. Ensure you update to the latest version to take advantage of these new features.
