After months of anticipation, the latest significant update for Stardew Valley has arrived on both Android and iOS, introducing a plethora of new features, including a hidden multiplayer mode.
With the Stardew Valley 1.6.9 update available now on mobile platforms, players can engage in multiplayer sessions to explore each other’s farms and collaborate on tasks, similar to the experience offered on desktop and console versions for some time. This addition was announced on the official Stardew Valley website.
The implementation has some unique aspects. Notably, multiplayer functionality operates solely over IP, which necessitates players to manually enter the IP address of the game they wish to join. While this is ideally suited for local networks, it also allows for connections beyond mobile devices.
The mobile multiplayer functions much like other platforms’, but lacks the ability to discover farms automatically. Connection can only be established through IP. However, mobile users can join a farm hosted on a PC using the IP method.
The optimal scenario for “mobile multiplayer” would involve connecting a high-end mobile device to a PC-hosted farm over a local network (utilizing Wi-Fi unless the device can connect via Ethernet). This setup would provide the best experience.
It’s important to note that the multiplayer option isn’t immediately visible in the Stardew Valley apps for Android or iOS. Users need to activate it manually.
To enable multiplayer mode, players should launch Stardew Valley and input a “secret” code at the title screen. By tapping the leaves surrounding the “Stardew Valley” logo in a specified order—up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right (↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← →)—and then pressing the “?” button located in the bottom right corner, they can access this feature.
Once completed, the “Co-op” button will appear just like on other platforms. From there, the game can assist in entering the IP address of the desired game (which corresponds to the device itself), allowing players to join seamlessly.
