Abode, the maker of a DIY smart home security system compatible with HomeKit, has introduced a new app for Apple TV. This app offers users the complete range of home security and smart home controls directly on tvOS. Having utilized their security system for over four years, I can attest to my admiration for their products.
With the latest Apple TV app, Abode users can easily arm or disarm their system, check live feeds from up to four Abode cameras, and view recorded clips—all from the comfort of their couch. The interface mirrors the design and usability of Abode’s iPhone app, making it user-friendly to control devices without needing to fetch your iPhone.
A standout feature of the Abode app is its integration with the 24/7 recording plan. Users can navigate through video footage or jump straight to key events from their Apple TV if continuous recording is enabled. So, if you receive a motion alert while watching a program, you can quickly check the footage right from your Apple TV without the need for the iOS app. Additionally, if you’re using Abode CUE for smart home automation, the app allows you to control various smart home devices straight from the dashboard.
With the release of new TV applications, Abode customers (including myself) can manage their security system from almost any device, be it an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or now their TV. The Apple TV app retains the design consistency of Abode’s other platforms, ensuring a seamless experience. Notably, the Apple TV app store is largely filled with streaming services, making the introduction of a new experience like this particularly welcome.
Abode also boasts strong integration with HomeKit. While you can arm and disarm the system via the Home app, the true advantage lies in the fact that many sensors (doors, windows, motion, etc.) are available as HomeKit devices, allowing them to be used in HomeKit scenes and automations.
