Apple has announced that it will introduce new hearing aid capabilities for AirPods Pro 2 users in the UK, following changes in government regulations.
In a communication with The Telegraph, Apple confirmed that these features will be made available to UK customers in the upcoming weeks in light of the revised government policy.
The recent UK government policy document clarified that hearing aids can now be sold over-the-counter.
This policy aligns with the framework established in the US in 2022, which inspired Apple to create the hearing aid features for AirPods. These functionalities were first rolled out in the US as a complimentary software update in late 2024.
The Hearing Health update offers users the option to conduct a home hearing test, which assesses whether they might benefit from using hearing aids. Based on the hearing test results, the AirPods Pro 2 can assist with mild to moderate hearing loss. Users may also upload an audiogram completed by a licensed hearing professional.
Additionally, the Loud Sound Reduction feature automatically diminishes the effects of loud surroundings as long as the AirPods are securely in place in the user’s ears.
