Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the upcoming AirTag 2 will see a significant enhancement in one of its main features: Precision Finding. With a new ultrawide band chip, users can expect to track their AirTags over three times the distance compared to the current version.
Since its launch in 2021, AirTag has remained unchanged. Earlier this year, rumors about AirTag 2 began surfacing, albeit without much clarity on the specific upgrades it would bring. Now, we’re receiving more concrete information:
According to Gurman, the new AirTag will incorporate the same advanced ultrawide band chip found in the iPhone 15, which would significantly enhance Precision Finding capabilities, extending the tracking range.
The existing model, which features the ultrawide band chip introduced with the iPhone 11, allows Precision Finding within a range of 10-30 meters. With the enhanced capabilities from the new model, this range could increase to an impressive 30-90 meters, providing a much clearer advantage in locating misplaced items.
For moments when you’re outside of the Precision Finding range, the AirTag will still indicate a general location on a map or play a sound to assist in locating it.
If you’re considering purchasing the current AirTag before the holiday season, there are some excellent deals available. You can get an individual AirTag for just $24, or choose a four-pack for $72.99, which brings the cost down to $18 per AirTag!
