According to recent reports, actor Alec Baldwin quits Twitter again after posting a sarcastic tweet about Gillian Anderson’s accent. The ’30 Rock’ actor mentioned that he finds Anderson’s ability “fascinating” as very few in the industry have the ability to switch accents in the middle of speeches. The comment is expected to be hinting at Gillian’s acceptance speech at the Golden Globes last weekend.
This week has not been an easy one for the Baldwin couple. This is because both Hilaria and husband Alec Baldwin have been making it to the headlines repeatedly. The rollercoaster week ended in Alec deactivating his profile on Twitter.
Alec Baldwin Bashes Twitter As A Social Media Platform
However, before leaving the platform, Alec went on Instagram to explain his cause for doing so. In a ten minutes Insta video he explained that his action is a response to the social media backlash that he had received for commenting on Anderson’s accent issues. Criticisms involved his wife, Hilaria, who is also known for her infamous Spanish-American accent switches in between speeches. Alec Baldwin, who has been embattling these comments, now leaves Twitter.
In the Instagram video, Baldwin restricted himself from mentioning Gillian Anderson’s name. However, he said that he is a “huge fan” of her work and has referenced it on Twitter before. He later justified his tweet regarding Anderson’s accent. He said that the comment was made to illustrate that multicultural expression is a personal business. He went on to say, “Of course you can’t do any irony on Twitter.”
Alec Baldwin also extended harsh comments on how the social media platform functions in the present day. According to him, Twitter is a place “where all assholes in the United States and beyond” assemble to “get their advanced degrees in asshole-ness.”
