In a follow-up to a recent video showcasing the anticipated design of the iPhone 17 Pro, Jon Prosser from FrontPageTech is back with a new video previewing the expected look of the ‘iPhone 17 Air,’ a groundbreaking new model in the iPhone series.
The Air is set to take the place of the iPhone 16 Plus, aiming to be a mid-tier option featuring an entirely revamped ultra-slim chassis design. Various sources have suggested that one of the trade-offs for this model will be its single rear camera. Nevertheless, the provided renders imply that this singular lens will still fit within a full-width protruding bar style.
While it’s uncertain if these renderings truly reflect reality, they largely coincide with reports from notable publications such as The Information and Bloomberg. The most debated aspect is the design of the protruding rear camera module.
These renders propose a rectangular camera bar positioned on the left side, whereas an earlier report from The Information suggested relocating the camera to the top center of the device.
The iPhone 17 Air, occasionally referred to as the iPhone 17 Slim, is poised to distinguish itself with its exceptionally thin profile, measuring between 5.5mm and 6mm in thickness, excluding the rear camera bump.
However, to realize this ultra-slim design, the phone’s specifications may not be the most advanced. For example, the single 48-megapixel rear camera might lack the optical zoom capabilities found in current models with multiple rear cameras.
Additionally, earlier reports hinted that the front camera quality could be inferior, along with lower-grade built-in speakers. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the device will run on the standard A19 chip rather than the A19 Pro version.
Apple has historically faced challenges in successfully launching a fourth iPhone model. The mini was discontinued due to insufficient demand, and the Plus model hasn’t captivated consumers either. The Air represents Apple’s latest effort, seemingly designed to create a product that is distinctly unique.
Whether or not customers will see the value in the compromises associated with the iPhone 17 Air remains to be seen, but it’s guaranteed to present a striking new appearance when it launches in the fall.
