Apple’s lineup for the upcoming year is packed with over 20 new products set to launch. One item that hasn’t been widely discussed is a potential upgraded Studio Display, yet there are at least three compelling reasons to suggest that a new model could be on the way in 2025.
#1: New Studio Display complements the Mac Studio launch
The original Apple Studio Display debuted in March 2022, coinciding with the launch of the first-ever Mac Studio.
The connection is clear: the Studio Display and the Mac Studio are designed to work in harmony.
Rumors suggest that an M4 Mac Studio may be unveiled this coming summer, potentially at WWDC.
While this doesn’t guarantee a new Studio Display will be released at the same time, the timing certainly aligns. Particularly when we consider the next two points.
#2: Ming-Chi Kuo’s 2025 launch prediction
Renowned supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is a leading source for Apple leaks. He previously indicated that a new Studio Display would be launched in 2025.
While his remarks were made back in April 2023, he reaffirmed in September 2024 that there have been no changes to this prediction.
In essence, a 2025 launch for Apple’s new Studio Display appears promising.
#3: New features align with other anticipated Apple releases
Moreover, recent reports suggest new features for the Studio Display that could align closely with other products Apple plans to introduce in 2025.
In July 2023, Mark Gurman disclosed that Apple was developing a new monitor equipped with an intriguing feature—it would also serve as a smart home display when not in use.
Does that ring a bell?
Apple is expected to launch a new smart home device, referred to as ‘HomePad,’ in the spring. This device will feature a smart display and run on a new operating system designed for such functions.
Essentially, this could lead to an upgraded Studio Display that incorporates similar capabilities.
Furthermore, just a few months back, an anonymous source informed the Upgrade podcast that Apple is working on new 90Hz display panels for an M3 iPad Air, new iMac models, and a ‘next-generation Studio Display.’
Like the HomePad, a new iPad Air is also anticipated to debut this spring. If it does include a 90Hz display, it would logically follow that this technology could appear in the new Studio Display later in the year.
New Studio Display: conclusion
All things considered, the evidence is mounting in favor of a new Apple Studio Display arriving this year. The one point of uncertainty comes from Mark Gurman’s lack of mention of the monitor in his latest analysis of Apple’s 2025 product lineup.
However, its absence from a single report doesn’t negate the possibility of its arrival. It’s more plausible that Gurman simply lacks sufficient details to make a conclusive statement either way.
With new launches for the Mac Studio and Mac Pro approaching, it certainly feels like the opportune moment for an enhanced Studio Display.
