Apple Acquires Pixelmator and Photomator

In November, the Pixelmator team revealed an acquisition agreement with Apple. Now, three months later, it is confirmed that Pixelmator has officially joined Apple.

This confirmation was communicated via a software update for the Pixelmator and Photomator applications on iPhone and iPad.

Updates for Pixelmator Pro and Photomator on Mac also include a similar message.

According to the release notes for each app, both updates feature an “important announcement regarding” Pixelmator and Photomator.

Upon updating to the latest versions, users will see a splash screen indicating that these apps are now part of Apple.

This announcement is accompanied by a link to Apple’s privacy policy, which is now applicable to these photo and image editing applications.

Moving forward, it will be interesting to observe how frequently updates are released for Pixelmator. The Pixelmator team has historically been a strong participant within the Mac, iPad, and iPhone ecosystems, consistently utilizing Apple’s latest platform features and tools.

We are also uncertain whether Apple will alter the pricing structure or incorporate either application into upcoming OS updates.

For the time being, the Pixelmator chapter at Apple is just beginning.
