Apple Addresses Disappearing Notes Issue Following iCloud Terms Update

Earlier this month, we shared concerns regarding a troubling glitch affecting Apple Notes users and provided a straightforward workaround. Now, Apple has formally recognized the problem and has detailed the resolution in an official support document.

New support document provides Notes app resolution

Occasionally, Apple requests users to accept an updated set of terms and conditions through a pop-up on their devices.

This happened a couple of weeks ago with the iCloud terms, and while some users faced no problems after accepting these terms, others found that their Apple Notes app had lost all iCloud-based notes.

Thankfully, the issue did not result in actual data loss. It merely turned off a toggle meant to enable iCloud usage within the Notes app.

Apple has released a new support document explaining how to resolve the issue:

  1. Open the Settings app and select your name.
  2. Tap iCloud, then select Notes.
  3. Ensure that Sync this [device] is enabled, then check your Notes app.
  4. If your notes are still missing, restart your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro. After rebooting, check your settings once more.

DMN’s Perspective

The steps provided are nearly identical to those shared by my colleague Ben earlier this month.

The only notable addition is that if enabling iCloud sync for Notes on your device does not solve the issue immediately, a device restart should do the trick.

As a frequent user of Apple Notes, I didn’t face this issue personally, but it’s easy to understand how alarming it must be to open the app and see nothing. I’m relieved to know that there wasn’t any actual data loss and that the fix is uncomplicated.

Have you experienced the Notes bug? What steps did you take to resolve it? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
