Apple Allegedly Aiming to ‘Replicate’ Your Doctor in 2024 with New Project Mulberry

Apple is reportedly developing a completely redesigned Health app, as noted by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. This initiative, known by its codename Mulberry, will introduce a new health coach and is anticipated to launch with iOS 19.4 in the upcoming spring.

Overhauled Health App

Gurman characterizes this innovative health coach as an “AI agent” designed to “mimic” your actual physician. This aligns with Tim Cook’s long-term objective of positioning Apple as a leader in healthcare advancements.

The health coach will be part of the overhauled health app, which is expected to debut alongside iOS 19.4, according to Mark Gurman:

This initiative has undergone various changes and has involved other teams within Apple, including the artificial intelligence division. Development is now progressing rapidly, with a launch aimed for iOS 19.4, anticipated for spring or summer of next year.

The redesigned health app will leverage much of the health information that Apple has already collected from users—particularly those who own an Apple Watch—feeding this data to the new AI coach to provide personalized health guidance.

Introducing the New AI Agent

This AI agent is reportedly being educated using data gathered from Apple-employed doctors. Furthermore, the company intends to engage external healthcare professionals to create instructional videos for the updated health app. Apple is aiming to recruit specialists in sleep science, nutrition, physical therapy, mental health, and cardiology.

These videos will assist in elaborating on significant health trends for users and will be filmed at a new studio located in Oakland, as reported by Gurman. Additionally, Apple is seeking to secure a prominent physician to act as a ‘host’ for this new service, informally referred to as ‘Health+’ among Apple employees.

A key emphasis of this app will be food tracking, enabling users to monitor their dietary intake. According to Gurman, the AI agents will also provide assistance with nutritional guidance.

Finally, Apple aims to integrate the rear cameras of iPhones to analyze workouts and offer feedback to users, with potential future synergies with Apple Fitness+.
