As we enter the third week of 2025, Apple has made a minor but significant update to its CarPlay website: the anticipated CarPlay 2 is no longer scheduled for a 2024 release, confirming its delay.
Revised CarPlay website removes mention of promised launch date
Apple’s intentions to launch CarPlay 2 (‘the next version of CarPlay’) are officially delayed.
The company’s website has been revised to eliminate any mention of a 2024 launch timeline, as first reported by MacRumors.
Throughout 2024, Apple’s CarPlay website consistently asserted that the initial models featuring CarPlay 2 would debut during that year.
Even in December, the wording remained the same, leading many, including myself, to speculate that an announcement would be made right before the deadline.
A similar situation occurred the year before when Apple assured that the first automakers supporting CarPlay 2 would be revealed. They just about met that commitment with a December announcement.
However, in 2024, the new deadline for CarPlay passed without any updates.
There are numerous indications that Apple is still making progress on its new CarPlay system, but it is simply not ready for release.
Personally, I hope Apple will explore a new direction for CarPlay by integrating CarPlay 2 features into the current system. This would allow millions of existing CarPlay users to take advantage of the enhancements.
Currently, all we know is that Apple and its automotive partners are actively working on developing the next version of CarPlay—leaving us to wait.
