Recent Nielsen data indicates that Severance is resonating strongly with viewers, and Apple has confirmed this success.
According to Deadline, Apple TV+ has declared Severance its most-watched show ever, surpassing even the acclaimed comedy Ted Lasso. The platform has reported more unique viewers for Severance during the initial month following the premiere of its second season than for any other title in its history.
While Apple TV+ has been somewhat reserved in sharing specific viewership metrics, this announcement provides a glimpse into a significant viewing milestone.
Midway through its second season, Severance has reportedly attracted more viewers than any other series on the platform, distinguishing itself as the number one globally.
In addition to strong viewer engagement, Apple notes that the series has contributed to a surge in new subscribers for Apple TV+, recording a 126% increase in the first three weeks of January compared to December.
As the second season progresses, it’s expected that the series will continue to shatter its own records, with the season finale (episode 10) slated to air on March 21.
Outpacing Ted Lasso is no small feat, especially given that Ted Lasso was the initial major breakout success for the streaming service. Over the years since the last season of Ted Lasso, Apple TV+ has expanded its subscriber count, paving the way for newer productions like Severance to achieve even greater success. Should Ted Lasso return for a fourth season, it may well reclaim its top spot.
Although Apple has not formally confirmed a renewal for a third season of Severance, such an announcement seems inevitable, with scriptwriting for the next season already in progress.
