Apple Begins Phasing Out iPhone 14 and iPhone SE Sales in the EU

As anticipated, Apple is beginning to phase out sales of the Lightning-equipped iPhone SE and iPhone 14 series in the European Union. This decision follows the EU’s common charger regulation, which will take effect on December 28, mandating that smartphones be equipped with USB-C ports for charging.

Reports regarding Apple’s intentions to cease sales of the iPhone SE, iPhone 14, and iPhone 14 Plus in the EU were initially highlighted by iGeneration last week. Then, MacRumors observed today that these devices are no longer available on Apple’s online store in Switzerland, a fact that DMN has also verified.

With the unavailability of the iPhone SE and iPhone 14 models in Switzerland, we expect similar actions to occur in other EU countries. By December 28, it is likely that Apple will have removed these devices from all affected markets. Currently, sales have only been halted in Switzerland.

When this transition occurs, the iPhone lineup available in the European Union will include the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and the entire iPhone 16 collection. The new EU law mandates that all newly sold smartphones utilize USB-C for their charging needs.

Apple is anticipated to unveil a revamped version of the iPhone SE in the coming spring. Along with USB-C, this new iteration will showcase a significant redesign, including a new chassis, an edge-to-edge display, Face ID, and enhanced camera capabilities.
