This week, Apple introduced new partners for their Apple Card offering 3% cash back: Booking.com and ChargePoint. While these additions are welcomed, it’s worth noting that an existing partner, Panera Bread, will be discontinuing its offer in a few months.
A recent update to the “Merchant Benefits” section in the Apple Card part of the Wallet app now includes a notice regarding Panera Bread, stating:
Beginning February 1, 2025, utilizing Apple Pay at Panera Bread will drop from earning 3% Daily Cash back to a standard 2% with Apple Pay.
This means that after February 1st, you won’t be able to enjoy the enhanced 3% cash back while dining at Panera, which has been Apple’s only dining partner.
Although it’s disappointing to see this benefit go, it’s possible that the financials weren’t favorable for Panera to continue the partnership.
Apple initiated the 3% cash back offer at Panera in August 2020, making it available for just over four years. They also had special Apple Card sign-up promotions for Panera patrons, offering $50 cash back for spending over $50 at the café.
Even with Panera dropping out, the Apple Card still provides 3% cash back for purchases at Apple and the following retailers:
- Ace Hardware
- Booking.com
- ChargePoint
- Exxon/Mobil
- Nike
- T-Mobile
- Uber/Uber Eats
- Walgreens/Duane Reade
If you’re keen on utilizing the 3% cash back at Panera, you have less than three months left to make the most of it.
