Apple ceases signing iOS 18.3.2, preventing downgrades from iOS 18.4

After the launch of iOS 18.4 last week, Apple has ceased signing the iOS 18.3.2 firmware. Consequently, iPhone and iPad users can no longer revert to this version of the operating system once they have upgraded their devices to a newer release.

Apple restricts downgrade from iOS 18.4 to iOS 18.3.2

The release of iOS 18.4 on March 31 marks a significant update, as it activates Apple Intelligence in a broader range of languages. Additionally, this update introduces new emoji, Priority Notifications, and Visual Intelligence features for the iPhone 15 Pro models. Furthermore, iOS 18.4 includes several security enhancements, including fixes for vulnerabilities that could allow apps to access sensitive user data.

Conversely, iOS 18.3.2 was made available on March 11 and included a critical security update. Apple states that this update addresses a WebKit exploit that could permit harmful web content to escape the sandbox environment.

It’s crucial to keep your device’s software updated to safeguard against cyber threats and other security issues. This is the reason Apple stops signing older iOS versions, though it does pose challenges for users dealing with glitches in the latest update, as they are unable to revert to the previous version.

Currently, the only downgrade option available is from the iOS 18.5 beta to iOS 18.4. If you have a compatible iPhone or iPad, ensure you update to the latest version by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update.
