Apple Collaborates with Airlines to Launch ‘Share Item Location’ Feature for AirTags in iOS 18.2

In the latest iOS 18.2 beta release, Apple has enhanced the Find My app, enabling users to share a link to the whereabouts of a misplaced AirTag or any compatible accessory.

Additionally, Apple has issued a press release that outlines this new functionality, including collaborations with more than 15 airlines that will start to utilize Find My item location links.

This new capability allows users to create a link within the Find My app for a lost AirTag or other supported accessories. This link can be shared with others, aiding them in the quest to find the lost item. Recipients can then access a website displaying the item’s location on an interactive map, with updates reflecting any changes in location and providing timestamps for recent location changes.

Apple mentioned partnerships with over 15 airlines that will implement Find My location links to assist in tracking “mishandled or delayed luggage.” The system will enable airlines to “privately and securely accept Share Item Location” data:

Over the upcoming months, more than 15 airlines catering to millions globally — such as Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Eurowings, Iberia, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, Turkish Airlines, United, Virgin Atlantic, and Vueling — will start to incorporate Find My item locations in their customer service procedures for tracking mishandled or delayed baggage. Additional airlines will follow in due time.

Apple has partnered with these airlines to establish secure methods for accepting Share Item Location details, utilizing the vast number of Apple devices already in use by these airlines. Access to each link will be restricted to a select few, with recipients required to authenticate via either their Apple Account or associated email address to view the link.

Currently, iOS 18.2 is accessible to developers and public beta testers, with a broader release planned for December.

Additionally, AirTags are now available at their lowest prices in months on Amazon.
