Apple Confirms Ongoing Development of Missing Apple Intelligence Features

Today, Apple revealed that iOS 18.2 is launching, featuring the next wave of capabilities powered by Apple Intelligence. In addition, there remain numerous significant Apple Intelligence functionalities introduced at Apple’s developer conference last summer that are yet to be rolled out. While smaller features are starting to become available, many of the promised components of Apple Intelligence are still awaited.

Within the latest press release regarding Apple Intelligence, the company shared three noteworthy updates about feature rollout timelines.

Initially, Apple hinted at the arrival of Priority Notifications, a feature that is still forthcoming. It’s intriguing that this feature hasn’t been released yet, as Apple Intelligence already encompasses a Focus mode called Reduce Interruptions, which minimizes disruptions by prioritizing notifications deemed significant by Apple Intelligence. Although progress has been made, the comprehensive Priority Notifications feature is still on the horizon.

Next, we have Genmoji. This Apple Intelligence innovation enables users to articulate an emoji they’d like to generate, which is then saved for later use—eliminating the long waits typically associated with emoji updates. iOS 18.2 introduces Genmoji on iPhone and iPad; however, macOS Sequoia 15.2 has yet to receive this feature. In a footnote from today’s press release, Apple clarified that Genmoji creation “will be available on Mac in the coming months,” implying continued refinement of the user interface for Genmoji on Macs. On iPhone and iPad, the feature will be integrated into the software keyboard, while on Mac, it will likely be included in the emoji picker interface or available via a secondary action. Time will tell!

Finally, there’s the perplexing situation surrounding the absent image style in Image Playground. Speculation has even arisen that this image style may have been scrapped. Fortunately, Apple dedicated a section of today’s press release to discuss the previously announced Sketch style for Image Playground:

Additionally, users will have the ability to generate images in Image Playground using a Sketch style, characterized by an academic and highly detailed approach that employs a vibrant color palette alongside technical lines to produce lifelike illustrations.

Academic and highly detailed, you say? Apple Intelligence is still honing its artistic skills for the time being.

As confirmed by Apple, a software update scheduled for April will significantly broaden the array of languages supported by Apple Intelligence. So, don’t cancel that Duolingo subscription just yet, Apple Intelligence enthusiasts. All other acknowledged features are anticipated to arrive “soon” or “in the coming months.” In the meantime, let’s hope for the next series of beta releases that will give us our first glimpse of the third wave of Apple Intelligence functionalities!
