Apple Continues Support for World AIDS Day with Donation for Every Purchase

Apple is once again supporting World Aids Day on December 1st, committing to donate $5 for each qualifying purchase made between November 29 and December 8.

This marks the 18th consecutive year that Apple has backed The Global Fund, which focuses on combatting HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria…

The Global Fund

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria was founded in 2002 and has been recognized for saving 65 million lives since its inception.

The Global Fund is a global partnership dedicated to defeating HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria, and ensuring a healthier, safer, and more equitable future for everyone. We raise and invest over US$5 billion annually to tackle deadly infectious diseases, address the injustices that exacerbate them, and enhance health systems and pandemic readiness in over 100 of the most severely affected countries.

We unite leaders, communities, civil society, health workers, and private sector partners to identify solutions with the greatest impact, scaling those solutions worldwide. Since 2002, our collaboration has saved 65 million lives.

As the largest multilateral funder of global health grants in low- and middle-income nations, we have disbursed over US$65 billion to countries since 2002. We believe that with science, funding, political commitment, and leadership, we can conquer the most lethal disease threats.

The Global Fund exemplifies how cooperative efforts among civil society, governments, private partners, philanthropists, technical advisors, and affected communities can save lives and significantly alter the trajectory of HIV, TB, and malaria.

Apple’s Support for World Aids Day

Apple’s support for the fund began shortly after its establishment. A key part of this effort involves collaboration with (PRODUCT)RED to offer limited-edition Apple products in red, with up to 50% of the proceeds going to the fund.

The introduction of the (RED) iPod Nano initiated one of (RED)’s most successful collaborations, which later expanded to include the highly popular iPhone and Apple Watch. Since 2006, Apple has contributed $250 million toward HIV testing, treatment, and counseling. This initiative inspired other companies in the tech industry and beyond to participate in the movement.

Additionally, Apple makes annual donations based on sales across all products during the time surrounding World Aids Day.

This year, from November 29th to December 8th, Apple will donate $5 for every purchase made using Apple Pay on apple.com, through the Apple Store app, or at an Apple Store. These contributions will go towards the Global Fund’s efforts against AIDS and will help fund crucial health programs that save lives.

The company typically changes the Apple Store logos to red on December 1st.
