Apple Expected to Announce New MacBook Air Featuring M4 Chip This Week

For those celebrating, it’s officially M4 MacBook Air week! In the latest edition of Power On, Mark Gurman reports, as Bloomberg’s newly appointed managing editor of consumer tech, that the launch of the 2025 MacBook Air model is not facing any delays this week.

Gurman has consistently indicated that the M4 MacBook Air was expected to debut as early as March. With the announcement and launch of the iPhone 16e now complete, attention can now turn to the Mac this week.

If the M4 MacBook Air shares specifications with the standard M4 MacBook Pro, we can anticipate several enhancements compared to the M3 MacBook Air:

  • 10-core CPU compared to the 8-core CPU
  • Up to 32GB RAM instead of 24GB RAM
  • 120GB/s memory bandwidth versus 100GB/s memory bandwidth
  • 12MP Center Stage webcam

Additionally, there might be an optional nanotexture display to reduce glare, potentially a couple of extra hours of battery life, and hopefully some unexpected features.

Then there’s the matter of the existing MacBook Air lineup. Last year, Apple enhanced the base RAM on both the M2 and M3 models from 8GB to 16GB without adjusting the price. My speculation is that boosting the base RAM for the M2 model paved the way for the M2 MacBook Air to remain available. Conversely, the M3 MacBook Air could be replaced by the new M4 MacBook Air.

Amazon has currently listed the M3 MacBook Air at $50 less than the M2 MacBook Air, suggesting that the M3 is being phased out.
