Apple Frames Shortcut Enhanced to Support Latest iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch Models

Federico Viticci from MacStories has introduced an updated version of his Apple Frames shortcut. As we noted last week, he faced some challenging technical hurdles in getting this update operational…

The Apple Frames shortcut allows you to place your screenshots into the frames of real Apple devices. The latest update includes support for the most recent Apple products:

  • 11” and 13” M4 iPad Pro
  • iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro series
  • 42mm and 46mm Apple Watch Series 10

You can download the shortcut from the MacStories website. Federico’s article offers a detailed explanation of the technical aspects involved in updating Apple Frames for iOS 18.

Here’s the breakdown of the issue: sometimes – though not in a consistent pattern – screenshots captured by iOS and iPadOS 18 are in 16-bit Display P3, allowing for a broader color range and improved dynamic range. Yet, there are instances where screenshots remain in the older format, 8-bit sRGB. Unfortunately, distinguishing between these formats isn’t feasible since the Photos app categorizes them together as PNG files within the same Screenshots library.

I’m excited and grateful that Federico has managed to get Apple Frames functioning with Apple’s latest hardware. It’s an essential tool in my workflow.
