Apple Halts Signing of iOS 18.0.1, Prevents Downgrades from 18.1

One week following the public launch of iOS 18.1, Apple has ceased signing iOS 18.0.1. This decision means that iPhone and iPad users can no longer revert to an earlier operating system version.

Apple prevents downgrading from iOS 18.1 to iOS 18.0.1

The iOS 18.0.1 update marked the inaugural release for iOS 18, bringing a host of bug fixes, enhanced performance, and security improvements. Conversely, iOS 18.1, which was launched on October 31, introduced Apple’s initial set of Intelligence tools, featuring Writing Tools, Resume, and Clean Up options in the Photos app.

Additionally, with the rollout of iOS 18.1, Apple addressed numerous security vulnerabilities, including a flaw in Siri that permitted unauthorized access to sensitive user information.

Returning to earlier iOS versions is a common practice among users who jailbreak their devices. However, there are currently no indications that any jailbreak solutions for iOS 16 are in development. Reverting to a past iOS version can also assist users experiencing major issues after upgrading.

It is important to mention that Apple continues to provide security updates for devices running iOS 17, allowing users to maintain their systems without upgrading to iOS 18. However, once a user updates to iOS 18, downgrading back to iOS 17 is no longer an option.
