The release of iOS 18.4 introduces numerous enhancements for iPhone users, particularly for those within the EU, who can now access a significant new feature: Apple Intelligence is officially available for EU users.
iOS 18.4 beta delivers Apple Intelligence to EU users
After the initial unveiling of the Apple Intelligence features at WWDC last June, Apple had some disappointing news: the AI capabilities would not be available for users in the EU at launch or until further notice.
The cause of this restriction? Compliance with specific EU regulations that the company needed to consider.
This limitation was specific to the iPhone and iPad, as they faced different requirements under the EU’s Digital Markets Act, unlike the Mac.
However, after a prolonged wait, Apple has finally shared promising news for iPhone users. As Apple Intelligence prepares for its public debut, the company announced it would extend the rollout to the EU as well—scheduled for April through a software update.
It appears that this update will be iOS 18.4.
With the first beta of iOS 18.4 now available, users in the EU participating in the beta can access Apple Intelligence ahead of the anticipated broader release in April. This aligns well with Apple’s enhancements in language support within iOS 18.4.
Previously, EU users were entirely blocked from accessing Apple Intelligence on their iPhones and iPads, regardless of their device’s region or language settings, as Apple restricted access based on geographic location.
This restriction has now been lifted. Currently, for beta users, access is only denied in China, which we hope will change soon.
For those not on the beta, iOS 18.4 will be officially released to the public in early April, enabling Apple Intelligence support at that time.
