Apple has introduced a new firmware update for AirPods Pro 2, marking the first upgrade since iOS 18.1 rolled out enhanced hearing health features. AirPods 4 also received an update. Here are the details.
First firmware update since hearing health features in iOS 18.1
The previous firmware version for AirPods Pro 2 was build 7B19.
This update was released shortly before the introduction of Apple’s new hearing health features in iOS 18.1:
- Hearing Aid
- Hearing Test
- Hearing Protection
Today, Apple has rolled out build 7B21 for all AirPods Pro 2 models.
While the specific changes in this latest firmware are not disclosed, it is expected to include improvements and fixes to some features introduced in the previous build.
AirPods 4 also recently received an update to 7B19, but it lacks the hearing health features that are exclusive to the Pro models.
Today, Apple released a new 7B20 build for AirPods 4 users.
Eventually, Apple will update its AirPods firmware page with more information regarding these updates.
In the meantime, it is likely that these updates are standard “bug fixes and other enhancements.”
As is the case with all AirPods firmware updates, you cannot manually initiate the download. Instead, your AirPods will automatically update in the coming days.
