Apple Lawsuit Dismissed: Former iOS Engineer Issues Apology

In March, Apple initiated legal proceedings against a former iOS Software Engineer for leaking sensitive information to The Wall Street Journal and The Information. Almost a year later, that case has been dismissed, and the engineer has publicly apologized.

Former Apple Employee Disclosed Insights on Journal App, Vision Pro, and More

Andrew Aude, who was previously employed by Apple as an iOS Software Engineer, was found to have shared thousands of messages with journalists from The Wall Street Journal and The Information during his tenure at the company.

Aude served as the primary source for a leak concerning Apple’s Journal app prior to its announcement. Additionally, he disclosed information on Vision Pro and aspects of “spatial computing,” among other confidential details.

Apple’s lawsuit accused Aude of divulging “information on more than a half-dozen Apple policies and products.”

However, public records now indicate that the case has been dismissed following the achievement of a settlement.

Coincidentally, Aude expressed his remorse in a post on X yesterday.

I dedicated nearly eight years to my role as a software engineer at Apple. Throughout that period, I had access to sensitive internal information, including unreleased products and features. Regrettably, instead of honoring the confidentiality of this information, I shared it with journalists covering the company. I did not fully grasp the ramifications at the time, but this has proven to be a significant and costly error. Numerous professional relationships I had cultivated over the years were damaged. My otherwise promising career as a software engineer has been significantly disrupted, and restoring it may prove challenging. Leaking information was not worth the outcome. I offer my heartfelt apologies to my former colleagues, who not only worked diligently on projects for Apple but also endeavored to keep them confidential. They deserved far better.

While the specifics of the settlement remain undisclosed, Aude’s apology was likely a condition of the agreement.
