Last fall, Apple Notes received numerous impressive features in iOS 18, including collapsible sections, color highlighting, and audio recording with transcripts. However, I’ve recently stumbled upon another enhancement that addresses one of my long-standing feature requests and could greatly benefit many heavy users.
New Shortcut for Quick Note Switching in iOS 18
As someone who has more than 2,500 notes saved in Apple Notes, I’ve been an avid user of the app for years.
One challenge I’ve faced repeatedly is the process of switching between notes.
While, for the most part, navigating through various notes isn’t overly cumbersome, there are numerous occasions when I find myself rapidly toggling between two or three of them, making the Notes app feel sluggish at times.
Given the vast number of notes I have, my Notes app features an extensive folder structure, which can slow down note-switching significantly. When notes are housed in completely different folders and sub-folders, it can take multiple swipes and taps to move between them.
Thankfully, I’ve discovered that iOS 18 has introduced a feature tailored for Notes ‘power users’ like myself.
In the three-dot menu located in the app’s top-right corner, there is now a Recent Notes option.
This menu displays the last ten notes you accessed on your device, allowing you to tap any of them to switch quickly.
With the Recent Notes feature, I now have a straightforward and efficient method for switching back and forth between notes.
That said, I would appreciate it if Apple could streamline the process further by eliminating one tap. Nevertheless, the update in iOS 18 is an excellent start.
