On Tuesday, Apple officially introduced its payment service, Apple Pay, for users in Paraguay. Mastercard confirmed the news on their site, stating that customers of the main banking institutions in Paraguay can now utilize Apple Pay.
Apple Pay Now Available in Paraguay
In a blog update, Mastercard lauded Apple’s technology, confirming that cards from Banco Continental, Itaú, and Ueno Bank can now be integrated into Apple’s Wallet app.
“We are thrilled to partner with our issuers to provide the convenience, security, and privacy of Apple Pay to consumers in Paraguay. This launch exemplifies Mastercard’s dedication to delivering innovative payment solutions for everyone,” said Federico Cofman, Mastercard Leader for Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
With this, Paraguay joins other South American nations where Apple Pay is operational, such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Colombia.
Apple Pay allows iPhone and Apple Watch users to make payments in-store by simply holding their devices near the card reader. The service is also functional online for apps and websites, extending its availability to iPad and Mac users. Currently, Apple Pay operates in over 80 countries worldwide.
In related news, last week, Apple expanded its Tap to Pay feature on iPhone to additional countries, including Austria, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Romania, and Sweden. This platform enables users to convert their iPhone into a sales terminal for receiving contactless payments.
