Apple Plans to Offer Standalone Repairs for MacBook Pro Speakers, Likely Reducing Costs

In an effort to enhance repairability across its product range, Apple is set to offer MacBook Pro speakers as standalone components for sale, a service not seen since the 2015 MacBook Pro model.

As reported by MacRumors, Apple has circulated a memo to Apple Stores and Authorized Service Providers this week, stating that individual speakers will be available for repair in the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros equipped with M4 chips.

Furthermore, another source from MacRumors suggests that this repair option will extend to previous 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models:

A reliable source claims that Apple is now providing technicians with access to individual speaker components for ALL 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models featuring Apple silicon, including those with M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.

This past week, Apple added speaker repair manuals to its website, showcasing the intricate and lengthy process – although the spare parts are not yet listed for sale on the self-service repair platform.

Previously, replacing speakers on MacBook Pro models post-2016 necessitated a full top case replacement, a costly repair due to the need to replace most of the MacBook’s chassis. With the introduction of individual speaker repairs, costs are expected to decrease significantly.

At this time, it remains unclear if this repair service will be made available for other Mac models in the future, like the MacBook Air.

Nonetheless, this is a positive step towards producing more repair-friendly Apple devices.
