Apple Releases iOS 18.3.1 and Prepares for Significant Siri Enhancements

Apple has announced the launch of a new version of iOS, macOS, and various other operating systems. The first update released today is macOS 15.3.1, which is an update for macOS Sequoia, likely containing bug fixes and enhancements. We’ll provide updates with the release notes as they become available.

In addition, Apple has rolled out iOS 18.3.1 for iPhone and iPad devices. This version also incorporates “import bug fixes and security updates” and is advised for all users. Meanwhile, Apple Watch owners can upgrade to watchOS 11.3.1 for improvements and bug fixes, while visionOS 2.3.1 is now available for Apple Vision Pro.

There are also minor updates for iOS 17, macOS 14, and macOS 13.

At the same time, we are looking forward to the release of iOS 18.4 for developer and public beta testing. This unannounced operating system update is anticipated to include an enhanced version of Siri with several new capabilities:

Personal Context Understanding

Powered by the on-device semantic index from Apple Intelligence, Siri can now comprehend emails, messages, photos, calendar entries, files, and more. It will be able to respond to personal inquiries. For instance, if you ask, “What was that movie Jamie suggested I watch?” Siri will locate the relevant message from the previous week. Additionally, if you’re filling out a form and say, “Insert my passport number,” Siri can retrieve the number from a saved image of your passport and input it directly.

Onscreen Awareness

Siri will gain the ability to interpret and act upon items displayed on your screen. Therefore, if a friend sends you a text recommending a new coffee shop nearby, you can simply ask, “How long will it take to walk there from home?” and Siri will understand your request.

In-App Actions

Siri will be capable of executing hundreds of new actions on your behalf within both first- and third-party applications. The next time you edit photos, you can say, “Make this photo warmer,” and Siri will adjust this using the Photos app. Siri will also be able to transition between apps seamlessly. For example, after you finish editing a photo, you can say, “Add this to my ratatouille recipe note,” and Siri will move from the Photos app to complete the task smoothly.
