Apple to Transition to In-House Modems for New Product in 2027, According to Report

As reported by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple is set to incorporate its new proprietary modems into another product by 2027: the M6 iPad Pro.

The company first showcased its in-house modems in the recently launched iPhone 16e, named C1, which made a strong impression in the market. However, it currently does not support mmWave technology, and Apple is already developing subsequent versions to enhance its capabilities to meet flagship standards.

Gurman indicates that the upcoming iPad Pro powered by the M6 will transition to using Apple’s in-house modems, replacing the Qualcomm modems that are utilized in the cellular variants of the iPad Pro:

The company has also started early work on M6 versions with in-house modem chips, which are being targeted for 2027.

Even though the M6 iPad Pro is already circulating in rumors, it is not the next version on the horizon. Apple is reportedly working on the M5 iPad Pro, which could be unveiled as early as this year, potentially in October, according to Gurman.
