Apple TV+ has officially confirmed the renewal of its acclaimed sci-fi drama Severance for a third season, following the release of the second season finale today.
Work on the scripts for the third season has been in progress for a while. Executive producer and director Ben Stiller assures fans that there won’t be a long gap like last time between the seasons, although filming for the third season has yet to start.
Apple announced the renewal via a Twitter interaction between Ben Stiller and CEO Tim Cook, where Cook mentioned that Season 3 of Severance is available upon request.
The upcoming season will continue to uncover the secrets of Lumon Industries and will respond to the shocking developments featured in the season two finale.
Severance’s audience popularity has surged during the release of the second season, with Apple stating it has become their most-watched series, surpassing Ted Lasso. Season two has also received favorable reviews from critics and is being considered for multiple awards in the upcoming Emmys season.
Season one debuted in February 2022, ending on an intense cliffhanger. Apple quickly renewed the series for a second season. However, due to various circumstances, including the 2023 strikes involving actors and writers, the production of season two faced significant delays, resulting in its release being pushed to January 2025—almost three years later.
The wait for season three is expected to be shorter, but Apple has not disclosed a specific return date. High-profile dramas typically require substantial time to produce, so our best estimate for a release would be late 2026 at the earliest, potentially extending into 2027.
