Recently, Apple TV+ has been gaining traction with its television series, yet the platform continues to face challenges in the film department. The latest Oscar nominations reveal that Apple did not receive any nominations this year.
No Apple TV+ Films Recognized by the Academy in 2024
Today, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences shared its nominations for the 97th Oscars.
Unfortunately for Apple, there were no nominations in categories such as best director, actor, actress, documentary, or cinematography—essentially none at all.

Lost Early Oscar Success Amid Changing Film Strategies
In 2022, Apple TV+ made history by becoming the first streaming service to win the Academy Award for Best Picture with CODA, which triumphed over strong competition and awarded Apple the prestigious honor.
At that time, even Netflix had not achieved a Best Picture victory, making CODA’s win particularly noteworthy.
However, since that remarkable win, Apple’s film endeavors and strategy have diminished.
Following several underwhelming theatrical releases and a sudden shift to streaming for Wolves, Apple is said to be revising its movie strategy to concentrate less on theatrical debuts and more on streaming-exclusive content.
The company also appears to be gravitating towards more mainstream, audience-friendly films instead of the Academy Award-focused productions of earlier times, including the ambitious upcoming F1 movie, which aims to be Apple’s first major summer hit.
Given this shift in focus, the lack of Oscar nominations may not be seen as a significant setback for Apple. Nevertheless, it’s still a disappointing outcome considering the platform’s previous accolades.
