Apple Unveils Original True-Crime Podcast Featuring Steve Buscemi

The podcasting scene is increasingly being shaped by platforms like YouTube and Spotify. In addition to hosting on Apple Podcasts, Apple has begun to premiere its own original podcast series under the Apple TV+ brand. The newest addition, titled Big Time, has just launched as a true-crime series featuring Steve Buscemi as the host.

Big Time: The Latest Podcast from Apple TV+

Apple TV+ produces original podcasts alongside its TV shows and movies, which can be a bit confusing.

These podcasts are accessible to all via Apple Podcasts or any preferred podcast app; however, Apple TV+ subscribers will enjoy early access to upcoming episodes.

The most recent release, Big Time, is a fascinating true-crime show. Here’s the premise:

Hosted by the renowned actor and director Steve Buscemi (“Boardwalk Empire,” “Miracle Workers”), this 14-episode series delves into extraordinary crimes — from fake kidnappings to complex heists, and even stolen sharks. Each week, Buscemi introduces a new true story about a grand scam or scheme that almost succeeded. “Big Time” is a production of Lee Eisenberg’s Piece of Work Entertainment and Campside Media, in partnership with Buscemi and Wren Arthur’s Olive Productions.

The inaugural episode is now available, with new episodes set to release every week.

If you’re subscribed to Apple TV+, next week’s episode is instantly available on Apple Podcasts, keeping you a step ahead of everyone else.

DMN’s Perspective

While Apple has previously created original podcasts that complement its TV+ offerings, recent releases like Big Time are entirely original and not directly connected to any TV production.

I’m still unclear about Apple’s overall strategy behind these original podcasts. The connection under the TV+ brand seems puzzling, and it’s uncertain how well the company is resonating with listeners.

One possible aspiration might be that successful podcasts could pave the way for future TV shows on Apple TV+? I’d be keen to see if that materializes.

Are you planning to listen to the Big Time podcast? Have you come across any of Apple’s other original podcasts? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
