Apple Unveils Significant Expansion of Tap to Pay Features on iPhone

Tap to Pay on iPhone offers unparalleled convenience for small businesses aiming to accept contactless payments from mobile wallets and physical cards, and as of today, it has launched in nine additional countries.

This functionality allows retailers to process contactless payments using solely their iPhone, eliminating the need for an external mobile terminal or card reader…

Tap to Pay on iPhone

Originally introduced in 2022 with a gradual rollout in the United States, Tap to Pay on iPhone represents the latest evolution in card payment technology for small businesses:

  1. Traditional wired card payment terminals, which incur rental fees
  2. Wireless counterparts that also required rental
  3. Standalone devices connecting to an iPhone via Bluetooth, requiring a one-time payment
  4. Tap to Pay on iPhone

With this option, there’s no need for any additional hardware. Customers simply tap their card, iPhone, or Apple Watch against the business’s iPhone—though it’s important to note that this method is limited to contactless payments, which come with variable transaction limits that may not be appropriate for all businesses.

Since its initial release, Apple has been progressively expanding the service to several other countries.

Today launched in nine additional countries

This expansion marks one of the most significant updates since its inception, adding nine new countries all at once:
