When thinking about Apple Vision Pro, 5G might not be the first consideration, especially with the absence of integrated cellular capabilities. However, iOS 18.2 and visionOS 2.2 roll out a subtle 5G improvement for applications used on the Apple Vision Pro.
Utilizing 5G Enhancements for Apple Vision Pro Apps
Despite the lack of built-in cellular options, you can still use Apple Vision Pro away from Wi-Fi by connecting to any hotspot. Moreover, if you activate Personal Hotspot on your iPhone or iPad, you might have access to a specific mode designed for the Apple Vision Pro.
The introduction of iOS 18.2 and visionOS 2.2—both of which are now available—allows Apple Vision Pro apps to leverage a new feature named Enhance 5G for Apps with Apple Vision Pro. Here’s what Apple has to say:
A Personal Hotspot allows you to share your iPhone or iPad’s cellular data connection with devices like the Apple Vision Pro. If you are on a supported carrier network and have a qualifying plan, Enhance 5G for Apps can deliver an optimized experience for compatible apps on your Apple Vision Pro.
To take advantage of this feature, you will need an Apple Vision Pro along with these three items:
- A compatible iPhone or iPad
- iOS 18.2 or later and visionOS 2.2 or later
- A network provider that supports Enhance 5G
How to Enable Enhance 5G
The list of eligible iPhones and iPads includes:
- iPhone 14 and newer models
- iPad Pro 13-inch (M4) Wi-Fi + Cellular
- iPad Pro 11-inch (M4) Wi-Fi + Cellular
- iPad Air 13-inch (M2) Wi-Fi + Cellular
- iPad Air 11-inch (M2) Wi-Fi + Cellular
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (6th generation) Wi-Fi + Cellular
- iPad Pro 11-inch (4th generation) Wi-Fi + Cellular
To enable Enhance 5G for Apps on your Apple Vision Pro, follow these steps provided by Apple:
- Access Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
- Select Cellular.
- Tap Enhance 5G for Apps. If it is not visible, ensure that your device is compatible and updated to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS. Also, check with your carrier to confirm feature support.
- Toggle Enhance 5G for Apps on or off.
After activation, you can enjoy an “optimized experience for supported apps on your Apple Vision Pro.”
