Apple Vision Pro: The Ultimate Home Theater Experience as 2024’s Top Grossing Films Debut in 3D

For numerous individuals, Apple’s innovative ultrawide Mac Virtual Display feature in visionOS 2.2 beta stands out as the most compelling application on the Apple Vision Pro. However, you don’t necessarily need to be a Mac user to recognize the potential of the Apple Vision Pro as an extraordinary mobile cinema.

Over the past two months, I’ve been alternating between my home and my family’s residence, located a four-hour drive away. At home, I’ve set up an Apple TV 4K connected to my 65-inch Micro LED 4K TV mounted on the wall. Meanwhile, my family’s place boasts a quaint 19-inch television. While it’s a lovely spot next to a river and surrounded by nature, it doesn’t match my living room’s grandeur.

Regardless, I have been enjoying the Apple Vision Pro along with AirPods Pro to indulge in movies and my favorite weekly TV shows.

My mainstays include Agatha All Along on Disney+, Shrinking on Apple TV+, and those light-hearted holiday rom-coms on Netflix where characters fall in love after a chance encounter, often with coffee spills adding to the charm. Although there’s no dedicated Netflix app for Apple Vision Pro, the way visionOS 2 powers video playback through Safari in immersive settings is deeply satisfying.

The Apple Vision Pro also impresses with its immersive video offerings, which range from Super Bowl highlights to the original short film Submerged. On that note, wouldn’t it be great to see a similar film capturing astronauts stranded in space? Perfect for the format—just a free idea for filmmakers out there. There’s also a fascinating middle ground between standard and immersive videos: 3D content. Conventional 3D films can often be too dim and exhausting to watch, and the failure of 3D TVs from a decade ago is still fresh in our minds.

However, the Apple Vision Pro is the ultimate platform for 3D films. It delivers bright, vibrant visuals, and the proximity and scale enhance the overall viewing experience. Personally, my collection of 3D films has grown, thanks to previous iTunes Store purchases.

As for newer releases, Disney+ offers a terrific selection of 3D content that showcases beautifully on Apple Vision Pro. Remarkably, the top two grossing films of 2024 are both available in 3D on Disney+ for visionOS, solidifying the Apple Vision Pro as the premier device for enjoying Inside Out 2 and Deadpool and Wolverine.

I watched Inside Out 2 with my kids in theaters (which I thoroughly enjoyed), but my viewing of Deadpool and Wolverine was outdoors on my friend’s patio TV, battling the sunlight. Now seems like the perfect opportunity for a proper viewing experience using the finest home theater I have at my disposal. If you’re someone who cherishes movie watching, the Apple Vision Pro delivers an unrivaled experience that’s exceptionally captivating.

P.S. I’m currently composing this in Vision Pro, utilizing the fantastic ultrawide Mac Virtual Display feature with my M4 Mac mini while being away from home this week. The best part? No one nearby can see what I’m working on right now. 🙂
