Apple Watch Series 10 Prototype Showcases Unreleased Health Sensor

The Apple Watch Series 10 was unveiled last year sporting a revamped design. However, in terms of health sensors, it appears that the Series 10 maintains similar functionality to its predecessor, the Series 9. Interestingly, a recently leaked prototype of the Series 10 suggests that Apple might have had more ambitious plans for last year’s wearable.

Leaked Apple Watch Series 10 Prototype Suggests New Health Sensors

The leaker claims that the prototype’s heart rate and blood oxygen level sensors are significantly smaller than those currently utilized by Apple. Additionally, this prototype boasts a previously unseen “extra light ring” positioned between the ECG sensor and the heart rate sensors on its underside.

Rumors indicate that Apple has been researching blood pressure and blood glucose sensors intended for the Apple Watch. The company reportedly experimented with these innovations during the Series 10 prototyping stage but decided to postpone their introduction in favor of focusing on the watch’s new design. The leaker believes this prototype was employed for internal trials concerning the new health sensors.

Sadly, while the prototype is operational, it runs on an internal version of watchOS 11.1, lacking the standard apps (which are only accessible through Apple’s internal network). As a result, there’s currently no opportunity to investigate whether the health applications on this Apple Watch Series 10 prototype contain any undisclosed features.

Another noteworthy piece of information is that the internal version on this prototype originates from October 2024, implying that Apple continues to explore developments with these new health sensors. Perhaps we will finally witness them in action with the next-generation Apple Watch.
