Apple’s Johny Srouji Appears to Be on Intel’s New CEO Shortlist

Johny Srouji, Apple’s Vice President of Hardware Technologies, is well-known for spearheading the development of Apple Silicon chips, which play a crucial role in the company’s offerings. Though there are currently no indications that Srouji intends to leave Apple, Intel appears to be eyeing him as a potential candidate for their CEO position.

Intel Eyes Apple’s Johny Srouji as Potential CEO

According to a report by Bloomberg on Sunday, Intel is seeking a new CEO following the retirement of Pat Gelsinger earlier this month. Notably, Johny Srouji is reportedly on Intel’s shortlist for the position. The report mentions that Intel had previously approached Srouji five years ago when former CEO Brian Krzanich departed from the company.

However, sources indicate that Srouji “didn’t take the opportunity seriously” back then, as he was dedicated to developing Apple’s inaugural Silicon chips for the Mac and had no qualms at Apple.

While it remains uncertain if Srouji would entertain a new offer from Intel, it seems unlikely given his growing significance at Apple, especially since the launch of Apple Silicon Macs—which led to Apple severing ties with Intel. Additionally, Apple has ambitious hardware projects on the horizon, including the speculated “HomePad” and the company’s 5G modem.

Srouji joined Apple in 2008 to head the development of the A4, Apple’s first in-house chip which powered the original iPad and iPhone 4. He was elevated to Vice President of Hardware Technology in 2015 and collaborates closely with John Ternus, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering.

If Srouji were to hypothetically join Intel, he would have a significant opportunity to revamp the company, especially given that “Intel is in dire straits,” having missed critical chances to enter the mobile market and currently lagging in AI advancements as well.
