Apple’s New M4 MacBook Air: A Must-Recommended Product for Everyone

The M4 MacBook Air from Apple includes some impressive upgrades, though it doesn’t introduce a plethora of groundbreaking features. Nevertheless, even with its modest updates, this new MacBook Air distinguishes itself within Apple’s offerings as a product I wholeheartedly endorse for nearly everyone. Here’s the rationale behind my recommendation.

Navigating Apple’s Extensive Product Range: A Challenge for Recommendations

Apple has transformed tremendously since the days of the original iPhone and iPad. Indeed, it is a vastly different company compared to its early Mac eras.

In the past, there was simply one iPhone model available. Users could choose their preferred storage options, but the core model remained consistent across the board.

Nowadays, Apple’s website showcases an impressive array of seven different iPhone models:

  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone 16e
  • iPhone 15
  • iPhone 15 Plus

This growing selection aims to cater to Apple’s vast global audience.

However, it complicates straightforward product recommendations.

Which iPhone is right for you? Your answer will depend on your specific needs.

This same challenge exists with the iPad. I can’t recommend a new iPad without first understanding your requirements and intended uses.

Conversely, recommendations for Macs are much simpler.

The M4 MacBook Air is a clear choice for nearly anyone in the market.

What Sets the MacBook Air Apart in Apple’s Offerings

Several factors contribute to why I confidently suggest the M4 MacBook Air over all other Mac options.

Firstly, we have the discussion of laptops versus desktops.

A significant majority of the Mac models available from Apple are desktops, including the Mac mini, iMac, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro; whereas the laptop lineup only includes the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.

It’s worth noting that most Mac purchasers prefer laptops over desktops.

Desktops represent a minuscule fraction of Apple’s overall Mac sales. Hence, it’s reasonable to deduce that if someone is seeking a new Mac, they are likely wanting a laptop. This eliminates four out of six choices right away.

When discussing MacBook Air versus MacBook Pro, the decision is somewhat more complex—but only minimally.

In most instances, if a MacBook Pro is the best fit for someone, they tend to be aware of it already. They may work in a field that necessitates the Pro’s superior performance, or they require additional ports that the Pro provides.

In any case, sales figures indicate that MacBook Airs vastly outnumber MacBook Pros. The Pro model predominantly caters to a niche market.

The MacBook Air, in contrast, is the quintessential computer for the masses. Referring to Apple’s M4 announcement:

“MacBook Air is by far the world’s most popular laptop”… Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

While Apple won’t explicitly say it, “by far” implies it sells significantly better than the MacBook Pro.

This makes the MacBook Air an uncomplicated recommendation, as it is one of Apple’s few offerings with extremely broad appeal.

Unlike iPhones and iPads, no single model can claim to be universally suitable for most individuals.

The Advantages of the M4 MacBook Air Make It an Obvious Choice

Much of my argument applies to the MacBook Air, even prior to the M4 update. This holds even truer with the newly released model.

The M4 MacBook Air starts at just $999, making it one of the most compelling values in Apple’s lineup.

For that price, you receive 16GB of RAM, which ensures that the affordability is not achieved through subpar specifications. Some may wish to upgrade the 256GB of storage, but for the everyday user, it isn’t a dealbreaker.

The M4 also allows for the connection of two external displays while keeping the MacBook Air’s lid open, enabling a total of three screens. This functionality was previously only available to the higher-tier MacBook Pros.

Until recently, Apple complicated the MacBook Air recommendation process by maintaining two models. The M3 had a starting price of $1,099, while the M2 remained at $999.

Both models were solid choices, but determining if the M3 justified the additional $100 was a bit perplexing.

Now, Apple offers just one MacBook Air model, making the choice straightforward.

If you are in the market for a Mac, my recommendation will certainly be the new M4 MacBook Air.
