One of my favorite shows on Apple TV+, Bad Monkey, is officially set for a second season by Apple. Here’s the complete announcement.
Bad Monkey’s upcoming season will not follow the book sequel
Variety has shared the exciting news about the upcoming second season of Bad Monkey.
Interestingly, it seems like the show will take an unexpected direction.
Joe Otterson reports:
The first season drew from the novel of the same name by Carl Hiaasen. There exists a sequel novel titled “Razor Girl,” but sources familiar with the production indicate that Season 2 will not draw from that narrative.
This shift may suggest that the sequel ‘Razor Girl’ could be explored in a future season. Series co-creator Bill Lawrence has previously hinted at envisioning a three-season storyline for Bad Monkey.
On the topic of Lawrence, here’s his statement regarding the renewal for season two:
“I hope people understand that Carl Hiaasen is a personal idol of mine and has significantly influenced my writing,” Lawrence expressed. “To continue sharing his story alongside Vince Vaughn and this phenomenal cast, including the characters who remain, is incredibly thrilling. I’m truly grateful to our partners at Apple TV+ and Warner Bros, as well as everyone involved in bringing this show to life.”
The inaugural season of Bad Monkey launched this summer and swiftly climbed to the top of the Apple TV+ charts throughout its airing.
If you’re not familiar, Bad Monkey marks the third series from Bill Lawrence on Apple TV+, following Ted Lasso and Shrinking. In my view (and likely that of many others), Lawrence has been a driving force behind some of the best content Apple has produced to date.
While no official release date for season 2 has been set, we hope to see Bad Monkey make its return around August 2025, one year after the debut of its first season.
