Life in the jungle, I’m A Celeb, might make for entertaining TV, but for the campmates, it’s a constant battle with discomfort. From sneaky critters to minimal food, there’s no shortage of challenges. Yet, one universally dreaded task stands out: dealing with the infamous jungle toilet, aka the “dunny.”

What Makes the Dunny So Horrifying?

On the spin-off show I’m A Celebrity… Unpacked, co-hosts Joel Dommett and Sam Thompson shared just how grim the dunny situation really is. Dommett, a 2016 campmate, admitted, “It’s quite gross, it really is.” Thompson, who endured the jungle more recently, provided an even more graphic insight.

With up to 12 campmates relying on the same toilet, the waste accumulates quickly. Thompson described the unpleasant process of unscrewing the dunny lid: “You have to look at everything in there, and you wouldn’t believe the waste.” He jokingly added that it’s not uncommon to identify who used it last.

The job of emptying the dunny is unavoidable and becomes a rite of passage in the camp. Dommett humorously recalled his experience, saying, “You’ve got to take a peep because you’re like, ‘I think that’s Carol Vorderman’s.’”

A Test of Willpower

This year, campmates like GK Barry have tried avoiding the dunny altogether, joking about holding it in for as long as possible. Others, like Dean McCullough, have had even worse luck, with unexpected visitors in the loo adding to the horror.

Despite its comedic potential for viewers, the dunny highlights the raw and unglamorous reality of jungle life. For the stars, it’s an unpleasant reminder that the challenges extend far beyond the trials.

If the idea of limited food and critter-filled trials weren’t enough to deter you, the dunny might just seal the deal.
