Severance remains one of Apple TV+’s most successful shows, but it took nearly three years for the arrival of season 2. Ben Stiller, a key creative member of the series, has assured fans that season 3 is already ‘in the works’ and won’t take as long to debut.
Current Writers Room Activity for Severance’s Next Season
Rebecca Keegan reports in The Hollywood Reporter:
While Apple has not officially confirmed Severance’s third season, Stiller mentions that there is an active writers room in Los Angeles, and he aims to avoid a three-year wait this time. With Hollywood budgets tightening since Apple approved the series, Stiller anticipates maintaining the same level of quality for Severance. “A lot has changed post-strike regarding budget scrutiny and spending,” Stiller shares. “To Apple’s credit, they’ve continued to support the essence of the show and have stayed the course.”
The absence of an official renewal for Severance by Apple isn’t a cause for alarm.
The presence of an active writers room signifies positive developments for season 3.
Moreover, Severance stands out as one of the few Apple TV+ series to reach mainstream popularity. It’s clear Apple intends to keep renewing it until the narrative reaches its conclusion.
Typically, Apple announces season renewals towards the end of an ongoing season. Luckily, plenty of Severance season 2 remains for fans to relish in the coming weeks. Look for an official renewal announcement around March, coinciding with the finale of episode 10.
In the meantime, it’s reassuring to hear Stiller express a desire to minimize the gap between seasons for season 3. However, as both he and creator Dan Erickson have recently mentioned, their pursuit of perfection doesn’t always align well with rigid timelines.
While I definitely hope Severance season 3 will debut before 2028, the wait will be worthwhile if the creative team can continue delivering top-quality content.
Apple TV+ is available for $9.99 per month, featuring popular series and films such as Ted Lasso, Severance, The Morning Show, Silo, and Shrinking.
