A recent blog post has stated that the lead maintainer of Bitcoin Core, Wladimir van der Laan, is going to step back to allow for more decentralization. This implies a much more muted role in the entire cryptocurrency market. For the uninitiated, Bitcoin Core is usually the most important software that maintains the entire network for bitcoin.

Although it has been recorded that van der Laan’s work is to mostly ensure that the entire network is efficient and smooth- there are many communities who herald him as a leader of Bitcoin core. But this had several problems for van der Laan had become the official bottleneck which hindered decentralization of the market.

Development of the Decentralization of Bitcoin Core

This announcement appeared on one of the blog posts after the leader of bitcoin core got embroiled in controversy last Thursday. There have been quite a few users of Bitcoin who have objected to this decision of pulling off the white paper from the organization- which came as a result of quite a few threats perpetrated by Craig White. Yet, van der Laan continues to maintain that his decision was something he had thought of way before this debacle ensued.

In his announcement, he mentioned that he would initiate this procedure by redelegating some of his tasks- which would reduce his overall involvement. But this didn’t imply that he would completely dissociate himself from Bitcoin- or the Bitcoin Core project. Yet, he did mention that he would have a much more muted role in the newer hierarchy- taking on a background role.

Wladimir van der Laan believes that this decision will decentralize the entire bitcoin core project- for a digital currency shouldn’t be having any specified leaders. He reiterated this philosophy when he mentioned that the core project was as serious as it could be, and there was no reason why decentralization wouldn’t be taken seriously.
